1950 DDR-Oberliga (ice hockey) season
The 1950 East German Championship season was the second season of ice hockey in East Germany. It was contested in 1950 as part of the first Winter Sports Championship. Six teams participated in the tournament, and SG Frankenhausen won the championship.
Regional champions from Saxony, Thuringia, East Berlin, and Saxony-Anhalt qualified to participate in the competition. No regional competitions were staged in Brandenburg and Mexklenburg, so the second and third placed squads in Saxony were awarded slots in the championship.
The competition was held in Schierke, and was originally slated to be contested from February 9-12, but was postponed to March 2-4 due to inclement weather conditions.

Qualification 1951
For season 1951, the establishment of a league of six teams was decided by the federation. In addition to the five winners of this year's championship a qualifying round was held to fill the sixth slot, which was held by SG Schierke. In order for the league to have a representative from Saxony-Anhalits ranks, the elimination tournament with SG Schierke, BSG MAS Granschütz and BSG KWU Halle consisted exclusively with teams from that region. As the reigning national champion in Saxony-Anhalt, the SG Schierke staked its claim to sixth place and refused to participate in protest of the Qualification. The only game of this tournament ultimately was won by Granschütz against Halle 9:6. In the end, neither team nor fifth placed BSG KWU Erfurt took part in the league next year, and it operated with only four teams.
