The 1951 DDR-Oberliga season was the third season of the DDR-Oberliga, the top level of ice hockey in East Germany. Four teams participated in the league, and BSG Ostglas Weißwasser won the championship.

It was held from November 30 to December 17, 1950, at the newly-constructed Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle. The championship was completed before Christmas to allow cycling events to take place at the venue in January.

Overview

For the upcoming season, it was decided to expand the league to six teams. In addition to the set of four league teams from this season, a tournament between the regional champions of Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and the representative of East Berlin was to be played on October 3 and 4, 1951, to decide who would fill the other two places.

As in previous years, there were no championships in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg. After BSG Chemie Granschütz and the BSG Forstrichtt Apolda (formerly BSG Textil Apolda), the champions of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, respectively, did not compete, the teams from Berlin (SG DVP Berlin) and Saxony (BSG Einheit Dresden Süd - formerly BSG KWU Dresden) earned league places automatically.

Apolda was later allowed to participate in the league, so its size was further increased to seven teams. Previously, the two Berlin teams played in Berlin in a playoff game for the right to participate in the promotion round to DDR-Oberliga. Berliner Bar won the game and joined the Oberliga for 1951-52.

  • 6/8/51: Einheit Berliner Bär 6 - SG DVP Berlin 2 (1:0, 2:2, 3:0)
