The Uzbekistan Hockey League (UHL) was founded in January 2013 as the national ice hockey league in Uzbekistan.
History
The establishment of the league and the initial games of the Uzbek Championship were announced by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
On January 21, 2013, it was noted that the league consisted of four teams and that games were played each week on Mondays and Tuesdays. The head of the league, Alisher Azimov, stated at the time that ice hockey was attracting more people in Uzbekistan and that the league was undergoing negotiations with sponsors on the construction of a new full-sized ice rink.[1]
The first matches were held in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent in January 2013 at the ice arena in the Park of Furkat. The championship was scheduled to continue in February, but no further results were reported and it appears the competition was aborted.
No further championships were held again until 2019, when the competition was re-started in February with four teams competing: Binokor, Tashkent, Humo, and Semurg.[2] The Humo Ice Dome opened in March, and the finals were held in April, with Semurg defeating Binokor 4-1 to capture the title.[3]
