The Turkmenistan Championship is the national ice hockey championship in Turkmenistan. The first season of the tournament took place in 2013-14.[2] It involves 8 professional clubs of various ministries, departments and institutions of Turkmenistan. The tournament was held for 3 months in Ashgabat, consisting of 28 games in total. The teams placing first through fourth place in the championship, qualified for the Turkmenistan Cup. Galkan HC won the inaugural Turkmenistan Championship. The second edition of the championship started in January 2015.[3]

Other competitions

The first domestic tournament, known as the President's Cup, was held in April 2012. Burgut of the State Committee for Tourism won the competition with Shir Oguz Khan and Alp Arslan finishing second and third, respectively. The President of Turkmenistan awarded the medals to the players himself. Burgut defeated Shir 8-2 in the final.[4]

Galkan HC won the first Hockey Cup of the Ministry of the Interior devoted to the Professional Day of workers of interior authorities in May 2013. Eight teams, divided into two groups, participated in the competition. Galkan defeated Shir in the final, 8-1.[5]

The Cup of the President of Turkmenistan was first staged as an international U17 tournament in 2013. It featured the Turkmen squads HC Oguzkhan and Galkan HC and clubs from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine, as well as selections from Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. A notable result at the tournament was a 60-0 victory for the Silver Lions St. Petersburg over the United Arab Emirates.[6] Khimik Moscow Oblast defeated HC Oguzkhan in the final, 3-1.[7] The second edition of the tournament was won by Shir, 2-1 over Oguzkhan.[8]

The 2014 MIA Hockey Cup was contested by six Turkmen teams and won by HC Galkan over HC Nesil 5-1.[9] The National Flag Day of Turkmenistan Cup was staged from February 10-14, 2015. It was won by Galkan HC, who defeated HC Nesil 8-5.[10] Galkan won the 5th MIA Hockey Cup in 2018, defeating Watanchy 7-0.[11]

Galkan HC won the 2019 Cup of the President of Turkmenistan by defeating Vatanchi 9-6 in the final.
