The Scottish Cup was a competition in Scotland, competed for by teams from the Scottish National League. The first reference to a "Scottish Cup" came in 1937. The competition was officially for the Mitchell Trophy, which was won that year by the Glasgow Lions, over the Glasgow Mustangs.
The Scottish Cup was first played officially during the 1939-40 season. It was a single-elimination competition participated in by all Scottish National League teams. The Dunfermline Vikings claimed the Cup.
Hockey in Scotland then went on hiatus due to World War II until the 1946-47 season. The Cup was next held in 1947-48, and was competed for annually through the 1954-55 season. It utilized a knockout format in most seasons, but was also played on a league basis in 1949 and 1953.
The Scottish Cup was awarded to the winner of the Scottish Amateur League playoffs in 1956. A later competition also known as the Scottish Cup was formed in the 1980s.
