Skåre BK
The Skåre Bollklubb is a Swedish ice hockey club based in Karlstad. The team was established in 1935. The first team recently played in Division 3, the fifth division in Sweden. For the 2014-15 season, the club was completely absorbed by Färjestad BK.
History
The club was founded in 1935 under the name Skåre Bollklubb and was initially a football club. In the 1950s, interest in ice hockey grew, so that a department for this sport was established. At that time, the club started playing in Division 4, a regional division. In 1967, the club rose to Division 3. In the early 1990s, the club managed to advance to the third-class division 2. In 1999, the team achieved the biggest success in the club's history, when the first team rose to Division 1. In this division, the club was able to establish itself as a result.
In addition to the men's team, the club traditionally focused primarily on the work of young talent. With the club moving to the Löfbergs Lila Arena in 2001, a cooperation with the Färjestad BK, which has been intensified over the years, began to move to the Löfbergs Lila Arena. The BK operated junior teams around U18 and U20 areas. The best players in these teams were later used at the Färjestad BK and continued their careers there, while the remaining players remained at the BK and formed the men's team. As a result, this was mostly the team with the lowest average age of Division 1. Before the 2011–12 season, the Färjestad BK decided to found a J20 SuperElit team themselves. Therefore, the club retired from Division 1 to Division 3.
In 2012, the game of the men's team was closed for financial reasons. Subsequently, the club continued to work for young talent and maintained a women's team. Initially, there were plans to merge the Skåre BK with one or two ice hockey clubs in the region in order to continue to be competitive. Since these plans failed, the Skåre BK moved into entirely in Färjestad BK for the 2014-15 season. This is the latter now operating a women's team for the first time in history.
Venue
The home stadium of Skåre BK was the Löfbergs Arena after the Lila Arena with more than 8,000 seats, which belongs to the Färjestad BK. In addition, the club used the smaller Kobbs Arena – especially in the range of young talents. The home games of the men's team in Division 1 visited an average of 150 paying spectators.
