Scottish Ice Hockey
Scottish Ice Hockey, abbreviated to SIH, (formerly the Scottish Ice Hockey Association, abbreviated to SIHA) is responsible for the administration of all ice hockey in Scotland, with the exception of Scotland's Elite Ice Hockey League teams (currently Edinburgh Capitals, Braehead Clan, Fife Flyers and Dundee Stars)
The leagues and areas for which SIH are responsible for are:
- Scottish National League
- Women's ice hockey
- SRIHC Recreational ice hockey Conference
- Junior ice hockey
They are also responsible for running coaching courses and the training and registration of on and off-ice officials.
History
The Scottish Ice Hockey Association was initially founded in late 1909 or early 1910. The Beavers, Corinthians, King's, Star, and Wanderers clubs were five of its founding members.
Shortly after its foundation, the SIHA accepted an invitation to play Princes Ice Hockey Club in London. The fixture was played on March 26, 1910. This was the first international match between the two countries, and ended 11-1 in favor of the English side. A return match was played in Scotland in December, and the Scots recorded a surprising 8-3 victory.
The SIHA went dormant with the outbreak of World War I and the closure of the first Crossmyloof Ice Rink. It was not revived until 1929.
11 organizations (Achtungs, Bearsden, Bridge of Weir, Dennistoun, Doonside, Glasgow Canadians, Glasgow High School, Glasgow Skating Club, Kelvingrove, Scottish Corinthians, and Queens) re-constituted the SIHA on March 23, 1929.
