Biography

He began his club career with Akademicky SK and later went to play for ČSS Praha, AC Sparta Praha, and HC Slavia Praha. Referred to as "Koza" (the goat) by his friends, he regularly played under pseudonyms, including "Valda", "Xaver", "Pal", and "Algy".

Internationally, Palous made numerous appearances for the Bohemian National Team and later the Czechoslovak National Team. He appeared at five Ice Hockey European Championships, two LIHG Championships, and the Olympic Games in 1920 and 1924. He scored Bohemia's first ever international goal at the 1909 Coupe de Chamonix.

He was initially known as Jan Pallausch, but legally changed his name to Jan Arnold Palous on September 5, 1947. Palous was a film director from 1914 to 1918 and authored two books on hockey during the 1950s.
