Grozny is the capital city of Chechnya, Russia. It has a population of around 271,000.

On October 21, 2022, “President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) Vladislav Tretiak visited Grozny, the capital of the Republic of Chechnya, where the grand opening of an indoor ice rink took place at the State Oil University. Tretiak participated in the opening ceremony and presented the Chechen hosts with a USSR national team jersey with his number and autographs of ice hockey legends.”

RIHF president Vladislav Tretiak:

“Sport unites people, this is how we can educate disciplined and healthy citizens. I would like to thank the leadership and the residents of the Chechen Republic for their contribution to the creation of ice hockey infrastructure and their desire to help our sport develop. I hope that the popularity of ice hockey will continue to grow in Grozny. When the required facilities are created, strong ice hockey players come about. We hope that future stars of our sport will take their first ice hockey steps at this new arena!”[1]

As a part of his trip to Grozny, Tretiak held a meeting with Muslin Khuchiev, the chairman of the government of the Republic of Chechnya. The parties discussed the development of ice hockey and other sports in the republic.

RIHF president Vladislav Tretiak:

“People in Chechnya love sports, a lot of work is being done to build infrastructure for a healthy lifestyle. Together with Muslim Khuchiev, we toured several sporting facilities and discussed the development of mass and professional sports. In connection with the opening of a new ice rink, an urgent issue is the creation of a children's ice hockey school in Grozny. The RIHF always supports such initiatives and is ready to provide any assistance concerning the development of ice hockey in the region.”[2]
