2016 Chinese Winter Games

The 2016 Chinese Winter Games ice hockey tournament was contested by eight teams and won by Qiqihar. The final round was played at a newly opened ice sports complex in Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, from January 23-30, 2016. The first round also took place there from October 25-31, 2015.

Ice hockey had previously been played in the Xinjiang region from October 1957 to 1962 and 1972 to 1980, dying out both times due to a lack of money and infrastructure.

First round

  4. Urumqi
  5. Shanghai

The top 5 teams qualified for the final round. Urumqi lost 8-0 to Chengde, 7-0 to Hulunbuir, and 6-4 to Qianwei, but defeated Liaoning 6-2, Henan by forfeit, Shanghai 6-5, and Hong Kong 5-0.
