The 1996-97 Russian Women's Hockey League season was the second season of the national women's competition in Russia. Six teams participated in the league, and CSK VVS Moscow won the championship. The Women's Kazakh National Team played "out of competition". They were replaced by Kristallochka Saratov for the final round (the championship was played in three rounds of five games).
