The 1986-87 British Hockey League Division One season was the fifth season of the second-tier division of the British Hockey League. 16 teams participated in the league, and the Peterborough Pirates won the championship and were promoted to the Premier Division.

(Telford had nine points that were earned with Garry McLoughlin in the lineup deducted. His transfer from Bournemouth to Telford had been improperly registered. Bournemouth had two points deducted as they used a suspended player, Mike Iverson, in a game they won.)
