The 1978-79 2. Česká národní hokejová liga season was the sixth season of the third-level competition in the Czech region of Czechoslovakia.

Due to reorganization of the Czechoslovak league system, this was the last season of the 2. CNHL until 1983-84. As a result, the top three teams in each group advanced directly to the 1. CNHL for 1979-80, while the fourth-placed teams took part in a qualification series. The losers from that series and all other lower placed finishers were relegated to the Czechoslovak Regional Championships.
