1946-47 Scottish Junior season
There were four competitions staged during the 1946-47 Scottish Junior season.
Season Overview
Excerpt from the Ice Hockey World Annual 1947/48:
"The end of the season 1946-7 saw honours evenly divided between East and West in Scottish Junior circles.
For the East, Kirkcaldy annexed the Frame Trophy and the McPherson Trophy, while Mohawks upheld the honour of the West by winning the Mitchell Cup and the Banner Trophy.
Finest team of the season was Kirkcaldy, who were only beaten by Ayr Spitfires (this knocking them out of the Mitchell Cup), and by Dunfermline Royals (who knocked them out of the Banner Trophy). Apart from these two lapses, the Fifers were rampant, and sparked by Jimmy Mitchell, played consistently fine hockey.
Most improved team were Mohawks, as witness their 9-1 defeat at the hands of the Royals in the opening game, and the way they gradually whittled down the difference until they recorded 3-0 and 6-1 wins over Royals in the Mitchell Cup and Banner Trophy at the seasons end. Incidentally, though Royals came out on top in friendly games (Mohawks couldn't win one in seven starts), the Glasgow boys won on the two occasions the teams met in Cup competitions.
Outstanding memories include the netminding of Andy Munro (Kirkcaldy) and Chic Huddlestone (Moahwks), the speed and shooting power of Tommy Walker (Dunfermline), the stickhandling of George McMillan (Mohawks) and Johnny Carlyle (Falirk), the passing plays of Bill nicol and Hugo Hamilton (Ayr)."
