On December 11, it was reported that the University of California had slashed $30,000 from the minor sports budget, meaning financial support for the hockey team had been withdrawn. However, California kept playing.

Loss of players to the armed forces led to the league cancelling the remaining two weeks of its schedule and dropping the playoffs between the top two teams. The San Diego Skyhawks finished first with 13 wins in 16 games. A second place playoff was however staged between Los Angeles and Hollywood.
