1940-41 Baltic matches

The following matches were played between the Baltic states in 1940-41. The three Baltic countries - Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia - had been annexed into the Soviet Union by this time.

Results

In mid-January, Dynamo Kaunas traveled to Riga to face Dynamo Riga for two matches. Approximately 1,000 spectators watched the second match.

  • Dynamo Riga - Dynamo Kaunas 8:1
  • Dynamo Riga - Dynamo Kaunas 5:0

RDKA Riga later traveled to Kaunas to face RDKA Spartak Kaunas at the Kaunaskom Sporthalle, where the ice was prepared in the same manner as in the open-air ice rinks. This type of ice rink was the first in the Baltic states. The rink was very small - only 16 meters wide.

The Latvian side had trouble adjusting to the small confines of the rink, and dropped the first match 6-3. They settled into their surroundings by the second match, and won by the convincing score of 8-2.

  • RDKA Spartak Kaunas - RDKA Riga 6:3
  • Kaunas - RDKA Riga 2:8

There was also a championship arranged in Kaunas where the three Baltic republics could compete against one another. The Latvian squad did not travel to Kaunas to play in the tournament.

  • Estonian SSR - Lithuanian SSR 2:0
