The 1936-37 OB I bajnokság season was the first season of the OB I bajnokság, the top level of ice hockey in Hungary. Three teams participated in the league, and BKE Budapest won the championship.

(Note: Ferencvárosi TC was originally going to participate, but withdrew when they learned they would be unable to use a Canadian player on their roster, Frank Stalpleford. The BKE second team took their place in the championship.)

Debreceni EAC won the country championship as the only team to enter it. They had the right to face the Budapest champion for the national title. However, it was noted that there were problems with the national championship, as BKE would not be around for the two-legged final.[1] It was not played and BKE was recognized as national champions.
