Match report

An excerpt from Peter Patton's 1936 Ice Hockey publication:

"Cambridge 0, Oxford 0, after five minutes each way of extra time, previous to which three periods of ten minutes each had been played, instead of the usual two of twenty minutes each.

The standard of play was a good deal higher than in nay previous Varsity matches due to the presence of Canadian players in both teams. The most prominent of these was Ken Taylor, the first of a line of fine captains and distinguished players that it has been Oxford's lot to have. It was the splendid work of Taylor in goal that saved his side from defeat, for Cambridge were undoubtedly the stronger team. At the end of the second period, a novelty for those days occurred; the ice was scraped and swept, a vital necessity, for the sun was in very good form that morning."
