1914 English Club Championship
The 1914 English Club Championship was awarded to Princes Ice Hockey Club. It was their first title since 1912 and their ninth overall.
Princes defeated the Royal Engineers 10-5 on March 25 in a preliminary game for the Prince's Challenge Cup (Club Championship). They advanced to face the Oxford Canadians in the final, played on April 21, 1914. Princes won the match and the Club Championship.
Princes opened the season with a 10-2 (5-1, 5-1) win against Cambridge University on November 15. On December 6, Princes beat the Oxford Canadians 6-2.[1] Princes defeated Manchester 5-0 on December 13. The Oxford Canadians exacted revenge on Princes on December 17, winning easily by 7-1 (2-1, 5-0). [2]
Some other games involving Princes included a 12-3 win over the Royal Engineers and a 9-2 victory over Cambridge in December 1913. Princes also defeated Cambridge 10-0 in March 1914.
This season marked the last year for a champion to be crowned prior to World War I. After the war, it wasn't until 1928 that the next championship was awarded.[3]
