Two new ice rinks were opened late in 1909, the Palais de Glace de Paris and a rink in Nice. However, a national championship did not materialize that year.
The Lyonnais Championship was scheduled to be contested on February 20 in Nantua. Cercle des Sports and Lyon Université Club were slated to participate, but no records of the championship exist, so it is unknown whether it was actually contested.
As with the previous year, Club des Patineurs de Paris took part solely in international events.
