There was bad blood toward Sherbrooke, who were refused accommodation at two hotels upon arriving in Grand'Mere. When they set off for the rink, the visiting players were accompanied by a crowd that upon reaching it, joined with the crowd already there in attacking the visitors. The goaltender Ames was sent to the ground, and after George Povey tried to help him up, he was struck again, and knocked unconscious, and Wiggett, Hyndman and Atto were all badly injured. The Grand'Mere crowd even refused to let a physician see the injured players. The game was not played and was awarded to Sherbrooke by forfeit and they advanced to the final due to this.
