This was the 1886 ice hockey season in the Canadian Maritimes:

Nova Scotia

The January 19, 1886 edition of the Halifax Herald reported that the Scottish companies (63rd rifles) and others were to play hockey on the Arm in Halifax that afternoon. The February 17 edition noted that the Halifax Wanderers and Dartmouth AA were set to play on the Dartmouth rink the next day. The Dartmouth Knockabouts beat the Halifax Brittanias 2-0 at the Dartmouth rink on March 10. The Halifax Wanderers and Dartmouth AA were slated to play again at the Exhibition rink on March 17. Teams from the Bank of Montreal and the Merchants' bank played on March 18. The Merchants won 6-3.

"The skating rink [in Dartmouth] continued to be the centre of winter activity with hockey games, carnivals and skating contests. The Chebuctos, Mutuals and Knockabouts were the leading clubs."[1]

Prince Edward Island

In Charlottetown, there were meetings held in January and February 1886, for the purpose of organizing a club and some games. "Hockey is at last to the fore. A meeting of those interested in the game will be held at the Citizen's Skating Rink at 8 o'clock sharp on Saturday evening next, after which a jolly good game may be expected."[2]
