main

The Épinal Hockey Club, known as Wildcats d'Épinal, is a French ice hockey team based in Épinal playing in the FFHG Division 1. The team was formerly known as the Dauphins d'Épinal (Épinal Dolphins), Image Club d'Épinal and Gamyo Épinal for sponsorship reasons when a French video game company, Gamyo, bought the naming rights in 2014. They rename themselves the Wildcats in 2022. The team was founded in 1997 and plays home games at the Patinoire de Poissompré.

On April 19, 2023, they won the title of French champion of FFHG Division 1.

History

The predecessor of the Image Club d'Epinal was founded in December 1906 and was named Sports d’hiver Spinaliens (SHS). It brought together both figure skating and ice hockey enthusiasts, who met at the Poissompré pond which was available to them during the cold months. At that time, it was not a question of competing with real hockey countries like Canada or the Nordic countries, but rather of having fun with friends and relaxing. A first split between skaters and hockey players took place in 1909.

Today's Image Club d'Epinal was re-founded in 1997. The new club initially played in the lower-level leagues, but reached the top-level Ligue Magnus for the 2003-04 season. In 2007, Epinal finished as runners-up in the Coupe de France, falling 4-1 to the Ducs d'Angers in the final.
