This was the 1940-41 season in Soviet bandy:

Leningrad Championship

The Leningrad Championship was played for the 19th consecutive season. 40 teams were divided into four groups of 10 teams apiece. In the women's championship, Dynamo clinched the championship with a 0-0 tie against Kirovsky.

Group 1

The competition was played from January 1 to March 11.

After Kirovsky was defeated 2-1 by Spartak in the last game of the championship, they finished tied atop the table with Dynamo. A tiebreaker match was then arranged, which was won 2-1 by Dynamo, who became champions of Leningrad.

Moscow Championship

The Moscow Championship was contested for the 19th time in 1941. The teams were divided into five groups of play. Group 1 was played from January 5 to February 23. Burevestnik Moscow won the women's championship

A rather unusual points system was used - 24 points for a victory, 16 points for a draw, and 8 points for a loss.

Krylya Sovetov Moscow won the Group 2 title.

Moscow Cup

Men's tournament

42 teams competed in the tournament, which was played from December 22 to February 2. The finalists earned the right to compete in the Soviet Cup. As Dynamo (who were guaranteed a spot in the Soviet Cup as the defending champions) made the finals, a game was organized between the semifinal losers for the right to play in the tournament.

The fifth edition of the Soviet Cup was played from February 9 to March 2. 16 teams competed in the tournament - three from Moscow, two from Leningrad, and one from 11 other large cities.

In addition to the senior hockey championship, Dynamo also won the women's championship as well as the junior hockey championship.

Note: It is unclear whether these games were played with a puck, or a ball (bandy). They did take place over three periods, which was the format used for ice hockey, though bandy games sometimes used it too.

Red Sports, 1941-01-14

On January 12, Dynamo Sverdlovsk beat the defending champion Lokomotiv Sverdlovsk 5:0 in the final of the Sverdlovsk Cup.

Red Sports, 1941-01-21

In the semifinals of the Kiev City Cup, NSK School beat Spartak 1:0 in overtime, and Dynamo beat their opponent with an astronomical score of 24:1.

Vodnik beat Dynamo 8:1 in Arkhangelsk.

Seven teams were competing in the Rostov Championship. Spartak beat Lokomotiv 10:1, Medik lost 3:2 to the Institute of Railway Engineering, and Pishchevik won 14:3 against the Institute.

Red Sports, 1941-01-28

The OSOR Hockey Cup began in the Leningrad region. 21 teams were competing in it. Kirovsky defeated OGPU 4:0, LOMZ edged Ordzhonikidze 3:1 in overtime, the Institute of Physical Education blasted Burevestnik 10:1, and Spartak blanked Kirovsky II 2:0.

Dynamo beat NSK School 9:0 in the final of the Kiev City Cup.

Vodnik beat Dynamo 4:1 in the final match for the Arkhangelsk City Championship. The Vodnik women's team also defeated Dynamo and won the right to compete in the Soviet Cup.

The final matches for the city cup were held in Ivanovo. Medic beat Osnova 4:0 in the women's game, and Osnova defeated Dynamo 3:1 in the men's contest.

More than 20 men's, women's and youth teams were contesting the city championship in Saratov. Lokomotiv won against Uchitel's hockey players, but then lost 7-1 to Dynamo.

Red Sports, 1941-02-04

A blitz tournament was played in Dnepropetrovsk with the participation of Dynamo, Spartak, Mining Institute, College of Physical Education, and factories named after the Comintern and named after K. Liebknecht. Spartak took first place.

In Ivanovo, Dynamo beat Spartak 8:0 in the men's game and 2:0 in the women's affair. Base (Основа) beat Spartak 7:1.

In the final match for the Voronezh Cup, Dynamo defeated the plant. Voroshilova 3:1.

The Stalingrad Championship was being played by 700 hockey players. In the first group Dynamo, Traktor, Metallurg, Barricades Plant, etc. competed.

In Arkhangelsk, Spartak won 3:0 against Dynamo in the city championship, and earned a 3:3 draw with Vodnik. The Vodnik and Dynamo women's teams played a 0:0 tie.

10 teams were playing in the championship of the cities of Noginsk-Elektrostal (Moscow Region). Metallurg (Elektrostal) won 6-5 against Krasny Znamya (Glukhovo) in a men's game.

In the Minsk Cup, Spartak beat Polytechnic Institute 12:1, and Dinamo thrashed Proletarian Victory 21:1. In the semifinals, Voskhod blanked Spartak 3:0 and Dinamo, after two games, edged DKA 2:1. After two ties, Dinamo beat Voskhod 2:0 in the third game of the final. The final games lasted 330 minutes in all.

Red Sports, 1941-02-11

In the Leningrad Cup, Krasnaya Zarya beat GOLIFK 1:0 in overtime, before falling 7:0 to Kirovsky in the semifinal. Spartak beat Dynamo 7:1 in the other semifinal, but lost 2:1 in overtime to Kirovsky in the final. Dynamo and Kirovsky reached the final in the women's tournament. The first match ended in a tie, and in the second, Dynamo scored the winning goal in the last seconds.

The championship of the Ural Military District ended in Sverdlovsk. Of the 12 teams, the hockey players of the Sverdlovsk House of the Red Army, who performed out of competition, finished without a defeat. The title of champion of the Ural Military District was won by the team of the Chelyabinsk Military Aviation School.

The women's teams of Lokomotiv Sverdlovsk and Vodnik Arkhangelsk played to a 0:0 tie in Arkhangelsk. Dynamo Arkhangelsk also beat Lokomotiv Sverdlovsk 1:0.

The championship of the North Caucasus Military District ended in Stalingrad. Rostov, Taganrog, Bataysk, Uryupinsk and Stalingrad took part in the competition. The games were held according to the Olympic system. Rostov (DKA) defeated Stalingrad 4-0 in the final.

More than 20 teams competed in the "Molotov Mountain Championship". Machine Building Plant took first place, ahead of Dynamo, in the top group.

Red Sports, 1941-02-25

In an Arkhangelsk Championship match, Dynamo beat Spartak 3:2.

The Alma-Ata championship ended. 8 teams participated in the 2nd group and 12 in the 1st. The contenders for the championship, Dynamo and Spartak, had 18 points each before the meeting. The technically strong Spartak team won 3:1 and won the title of the city champion. The Dynamo women won 2-1 against Spartak (it should be noted that 4 women's teams participated in the draw for the first time in Alma Ata). The young men of Spartak and Dynamo played 2:2 tie, and thus equalized the points of the teams. Spartak and Dynamo shared first place.

The blitz tournament in Kazan was unexpectedly won by a young Sniper team (men) and Dynamo (women).

Dyamo Irkutsk won the city championship for the third time without suffering a single defeat. Dynamo beat Spartak, Nauka (22:0), Avangard (13:0), Burevestnik (3:1) and the N-th part (Н-скую часть) (13:1) in the final.

Red Sports, 1941-03-25

In the semifinals of the Arkhangelsk regional cup, Spartak beat the second Dynamo team 8:1, and Vodnik beat the first Dynamo team 9:2.

The 12 strongest teams took part in the Khabarovsk regional championship. The CDKA hockey players took first place, winning 6:0 against the Amur Flotilla and 6:2 against Dynamo. Dynamo won the cup in the category of women's teams.

The title of champion of the Ivanovo region was won by the men's team of the Kirkizh Carpet Factory. The champion of the city of Ivanovo was the Dynamo men's team and the Medic women's team.

In Chelyabinsk, Dynamo Chelyabinsk beat Traktor 4:2 in the final of the regional championship.

In Kazan, Dynamo defeated the Sniper Society team with a score of 8:0 and won the Republic Cup. In the semifinals of the women's competition, Dynamo beat Pravda 1:0, and Spartak met with Medic three times without success. In the fourth meeting Medic won 1:0, but in the final game they lost the cup to Dynamo with the same score. 13 teams fought for the cup.
