  • Greensboro - There was youth hockey in Greensboro as early as 1961
  • Fort Lauderdale - The South Florida Hockey Association, comprised of Pee Wee, Junior, and Senior leagues, started in 1963
  • Knoxville - The Knoxville Amateur Hockey Association dated back to 1963
  • Huntsville - There was youth hockey played by 1963 and the Huntsville Amateur Hockey Association was soon formed
  • St. Petersburg - Youth hockey began in September 1966
  • Roanoke - Amateur hockey in Roanoke goes back to the late 1960s, when the Valley Youth Hockey Association was created
  • Charlotte - The Charlotte Hockey Association for amateur hockey was established in 1967
  • Atlanta - The Georgia Amateur Hockey Association was formed in 1972-73, after the arrival of the NHL's Atlanta Flames; Atlanta Knights dated back to 1969
  • Norfolk - A youth hockey program began in September 1972, the Greater Tidewater Minor Hockey Association was formed in early 1973, and the Hampton Roads Youth Hockey Association was established in 1975 (as the Peninsula Youth Hockey Association)
  • Nashville - Nashville Youth Hockey Association was formed in 1964
  • Birmingham - The Birmingham Amateur Hockey Association was in existence by 1979
  • Hillsborough - Youth hockey in Hillsborough goes back to 1980
  • Winston-Salem - The Winston-Salem Amateur Hockey Association was formed in 1974, with games beginning that fall
