History of hockey in Macau

The Macau Ice Sports Federation is the governing body of ice hockey in Macau. They were admitted into the IIHF on May 12, 2005.[1]

Macau arranged a small tournament on September 6, 1997 named the Macau Budweiser 3's Ice Hockey tournament. Due to the small ice surface the teams played 3 vs 3. In 1998 Macau entered a team in the Nortel tournament in Hong Kong.

A team from Macau has participated in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau Ice Hockey League since 2007, and the Macau Hockey League was formed in 2008.

The men's national team made its debut in 2003, playing a friendly game against Hong Kong, which they lost 30-1.[2] Macau then participated at the Asian Winter Games in 2007, finishing winless. The national team has competed at the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia annually since 2008. They won the 2015 Division I tournament with a 5-4 win over Kyrgyzstan in the final.

The women's national team first participated in an international game in 2007 in a friendly against Hong Kong. They lost the game by a score of 13-0.
