The 1929-30 British League season was the first and only season of the competition. Despite it having "British" in the title, the league consisted solely of teams from England. It was also known as the English League and the Southern League.

Only 10 games were played in total, and the Varsity Match between Oxford and Cambridge was played at St. Moritz, Switzerland, for four points.

Cambridge University finished at the top of the abbreviated league table. The league was not repeated the following year. Instead, only challenge matches were played, with the London Lions claiming the 1931 English Club Championship.
