The Berliner Eispalast, which opened on September 1, 1908, spurred the development of ice hockey in Germany. Bandy hockey had previously been played dating back to 1897.
Several exhibition games were organized after the Eispalast opened its doors. Leipziger SC, Germany's top bandy team, participated in one of the friendlies.
