2015-16 China National Championship
This was the 2015-16 China National Championship:
Final
- 4/26: Harbin - Qiqihar 1:0 (1:0, 0:0, 0:0)
National League
The league consisted of five three-day tournaments between Harbin, Qiqihar, Chengde and Jiamusi.
The 2015-16 season was marred by a scandal. On November 26, 2015, during a second stage game between Qiqihar and Chengde, Huang Peng, Chengde's 19-year-old captain, was deliberately struck in the left cheekbone by a stick from Lang Bingyu. Peng lost consciousness and had to be taken to intensive care. He lost three teeth and required 42 stitches.
This incident was perceived and publicized by the Chengde club as a symptom of the reaction of the two major clubs to the emergence of a new competitor. Chengde had initially built its team by recruiting players left behind by both Harbin and Qiqihar and providing them with a training environment. By 2015 the young team was beginning to threaten the established teams. The Chinese Ice Hockey Association levied harsh punishments for the attack. Lang Bingyu was banned for life, and Qiqihar coach Liu Wen was suspended for a year, including from his position as national team coach.
