The 1897 FCHL season was the first season of the Fredericton City Hockey League.

History

On December 21, 1894, it was reported that the hockey players of the city were endeavoring to form a hockey team, with the intentions of playing against Saint John.[1] In February 1896, there was a practice held at the Marysville rink featuring Fredericton and YMCA players. This was the first hockey activity involving the city of Fredericton. 
 Lineups - Fredericton: Harold Babbitt, Harold Chestnut, George Ferguson, Fred Hatt, Spencer Sterling, James Tibbitts, Ed Stephenson, Todd, Wakefield. YMCA: Doherty, Lorne, McCosh, Oliver Peters, Arthur Price, Fred Wilson 

No games were played in 1896. A year later, in 1897, the Fredericton City League was formed.

  • 2/26: University of New Brunswick - Fredericton 1:1 OT


 Due to mild weather, the schedule could not be completed, and no champion was declared. RRC Infantry didn't get to play in any games.
