Newspaper coverage had been poor in 1983 and 1984. In 1983, only two game results were reported (Red Wings-Healing Shimanos 4:3 in the knockout final on 9/11 and New Zealand-Overseas 8:4 on 9/18), and no results were reported in 1984.
