The Alpine Open Air Ice Rink, England's first artificially frozen outdoor rink, opened in London on January 8, 1937, but no hockey was played there until January 1938.

A house league operated out of the rink, and various challenge matches were also played. The rink was covered in October 1939 with a roll back roof. It closed the following summer.[1]
