The 1955-56 All-Union Soviet Youth Championship was contested by six teams, and won by CSK MO Moscow. HC Spartak Moscow finished second, and HC Dynamo Moscow came in third. HK Lokomotiv Moscow, Krylya Sovetov Moscow, and Spartak Sverdlovsk also competed in the final tournament.

It was initially divided into three zonal tournaments, from which the top teams advanced to the final round. Gorky Group: Krylya Sovetov Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Torpedo Gorky, Daugava Riga. Moscow Group: Dynamo Moscow, Lokomotiv Moscow, Burevestnik Moscow, DO Leningrad, DO Elektrostal. Sverdlovsk Group: CSK MO Moscow, Spartak Sverdlovsk, Avangard Chelyabinsk, Dynamo Novosibirsk, Khimik Moscow.
