Maritime Interprovincial Intercollegiate Hockey League

The MIIHL was established as a new intercollegiate league. It was comprised of teams of the University of New Brunswick, Mt. Allison and Acadia, leaving St. Francis Xavier out. This occurred minutes before the 1908-09 MIHL league meeting, in late December, and was driven by a belief of the three teams that St. FX had been knowingly using ineligible players. The Sumner Cup was created, to be given to the new league's champions.

UNB won the Sumner Cup.
