The 1897 FCHL season was the first season of the Fredericton City Hockey League.
History
In February 1896, there was a practice held at the Marysville rink featuring Fredericton and YMCA players. This was the first hockey activity involving the city of Fredericton.
Lineups - Fredericton: Harold Babbitt, Harold Chestnut, George Ferguson, Fred Hatt, Spencer Sterling, James Tibbitts, Ed Stephenson, Todd, Wakefield. YMCA: Doherty, Lorne, McCosh, Oliver Peters, Arthur Price, Fred Wilson
No games were played in 1896. A year later, in 1897, the Fredericton City League was formed.

Due to mild weather, the schedule could not be completed, and no champion was declared. RRC Infantry didn't get to play in any games.
