There were attempts to arrange a hockey match between teams from Vernon and Kelowna in February 1898, but it did not materialize. The Kelowna Dramatic Club had a team, but did not feel confident enough in their abilities to face an outside foe.

Challenges were made between Kamloops and Nicola Lake in December 1897, but neither city officially formed a team, and no games were played.
