The 1972 Spanish Championship was won by Real Sociedad HH. On June 1, 1972, the Palacio del Hielo Txuri Urdin was inaugurated by the civil governor of Gutpuczoa, Mr. Salmeron, who was accompanied by provincial authorities. The first game of what was known as the Torneo Nacional 1972 de hockey sobre hielo was played in San Sebastian the same day.
The tournament was played in San Sebastian on June 1 and 2, before moving to Jaca on the 3rd and 4th. The four participating teams were CH Madrid, CH Jaca, CH Valladolid, and Real Sociedad HH.
