Caucasus Ice Hockey League
The Caucasus Ice Hockey League was a proposed competition intended to include the Caucasus region at the border of Asia and Europe. Attempts to form the league were spearheaded by the Turkish Ice Hockey Federation.[1]
In addition to Turkey, teams from Armenia and Georgia were mooted to participate in the league, while the TBHF also reached out to Iran and Azerbaijan to gauge the countries' interest.[1] Armenian Federation president Hayk Jaghatspanyan denied reports that Armenia had reached an agreement to participate, and stated that negotiations were still at a nascent stage and that only youth teams were likely to participate.[2]
League games were planned to be staged at the Erzurum Ice Rink in the eastern Turkish city of the same name. Officials were going to attempt to formalize the league's creation at the 2011 IIHF Semi-Annual Congress, held in Istanbul from September 21-23.[1]
No further developments were reported with the league and it appears the project fizzled without getting off the ground.
