Nybro Vikings IF is an ice-hockey club from Nybro in Sweden. The team spent seven years playing in the second highest league in Sweden, HockeyAllsvenskan, from 2002 to 2009. The team was relegated to the third division, the Hockeyettan (then known as Division 1), during the 2008-2009 season.
The team currently plays in Victoriahallen, which takes about 3000 spectators. It was opened in 1963 and later renovated in 1984.
History
The ice hockey club in Nybro was founded 1939 as "IK Ymer", which 1955 joined the same organization as football club Nybro IF, and therefore also carried that name until 1998 when it became independent as Nybro Vikings.
Among many seasons in the Swedish second division, the club has also played two seasons in the highest league during 1968–69 and 1969–70. Club chairman Evald Carlsson was an important personality in Swedish ice hockey during the 1950s and 1960s and was the driving force behind Nybro getting the fourth indoor hockey arena in Sweden in 1963.
