The New England Hockey League was an amateur league that operated from 1979-1982 and 1985-1991. The Concord Budmen were among the teams to join the league for its inaugural 1979-80 season. The Budmen had previously played as an independent team, going 17-3-3 in 1976, and 17-6 in 1977. They won 24 games and the NEHL title in 1981. The league also featured teams from Berlin (the Berlin Maroons) and Manchester (the Manchester Blackhawks and later the Manchester Busch Blues), New Hampshire, and also from Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont over the years. The Budmen are known to have played until 1992-93, although it is not clear if the NEHL continued beyond 1991.
