The 1996 Izvestia Trophy was held from December 16-21, 1996, in Moscow. Sweden took first place, Russia finished second, and Finland came in third.
The tournament was part of the inaugural season of the Euro Hockey Tour. For 1997, the Izvestia Trophy was renamed the Baltika Cup.
