The Ottawa City Hockey League, featuring Ottawa HC, Rideau Club, Ottawa College, Dey's Rink and the Rideau Rebels, was founded in Ottawa, Ontario, for the 1890-91 season. Ottawa HC won the league from 1891-1893, and the Ottawa Aberdeens claimed the 1896 title.

The history of the Ottawa City League really started in the 1914-15 season. It was a senior league that was eligible for the Allan Cup. The league was totally composed of teams from the Ottawa & Hull areas until 1935-36 when teams from Brockville & Kingston were admitted. In 1931-32 an all star team from the league toured Europe.

This league was superseded by the Senior Hockey Association in 1947-48 and by the Eastern Canada Senior Hockey League in 1948-49. That was the end of the league except for a brief resurrection in 1954-55.
