Liepaja Championship (ice hockey)

Liepaja's bandy clubs met in November 1929 and decided to begin playing "Canadian" ice hockey with a puck, instead of bandy with a ball, the latter of which was the preferred style of play in Latvia and throughout the Baltic states at the time. The clubs decided to invite an ice hockey team from Klaipeda to play in Liepaja, in order to establish contact with other teams that played the sport.[6]

The Liepaja Championship was originally set to be divided into two levels of play for the 1929-30 season. 1. Liga: Olympia, ASK, Makkabi, Baltic Troops. 2. Liga: Olympia II, Makkabi II, Drahtfabrik, 1. Libauer Radfahrer und Sportverein.

In the end, three teams - Olympia, ASK, and Hockey-Balten - played in the championship, which was contested in a single group.

  • 2/23: ASK Liepaja - Olympia Liepaja 3:2 (2:0, 0:1, 1:1)[7]
  • 2/25: Olympia Liepaja - Hockey-Balten 3:0 (2:0, 0:0, 1:0)[8]
  • 3/2: ASK Liepaja - Hockey-Balten 3:0[9]

ASK Liepaja won the championship.

Latgale Championship

The Latgale Championship was set to begin on March 1, 1930, with the four teams from Daugavpils - ASK, LSB, DDMKVB, and Disk - participating.[10]

SSS Championship

The first SSS Championship in Canadian ice hockey was intended to be held in 1930, but was not contested due to adverse weather conditions.
