History
There was already an ice hockey team in Passau in the 1950s, which was a department of the ERSV Passau (ice and roller skating sports club). Depending on the source, it is also referred to as ERC Passau, ERSC Passau or EC Passau.
ERSV Passau was founded in 1929 as the Ice Sports Club (ESV) Passau. In 1934, a roller skating department was added and at the same time the club was renamed the Ice and Roller Skating Sports Club (ERSV) Passau. Roller hockey was played from 1936 onwards, but no ice hockey was played until the end of the Second World War. The first ice hockey game in Passau took place on January 16, 1949 on the Hals reservoir between the ETC Passau-Bad Hals and the SV Passau (now 1. FC Passau). This game ended 2:4 and was reported as an internal test game for the coming season. The first league game took place on January 29, 1950 between ERSV Passau and EV Landshut on the ice rink on the small parade ground; this game ended 5:7 (2:2, 1:4, 2:1). This team played nine times between January 31, 1952 and February 17, 1965 against TSV 1861 Straubing, the forerunner of today's Straubing Tigers. The Passau team only won the first game (final score 6:3), which the Straubing reporter attributed mainly to the poor lighting conditions.
At that time, ERSV Passau played its home games on a natural ice rink on the parade ground in front of the Nibelungenhalle, which was bordered by wooden planks on the sides without any boards. However, as their operation became too costly – the last game against Straubing had to be played in the Gäubodenstadt, as there was no playable ice in Passau – the team withdrew from the ice hockey district league (Kreisklasse) in 1965. In 1980, the ERSV Passau was officially deleted from the club register due to the loss of all members
