Kargil Open Ice Hockey and Skating Championship

There was an ice hockey tournament staged in Kargil in January 2009.[13] A team of foreigners, known as "Vermont, USA" won the tournament. The "Vermont" team won the first game 10-2, the second 9-1, and the finals 9-0.

There was some controversy about which team got to meet Vermont in the finals. In the previous game, a goal dispute had to be broken up by the local police. A team felt they had scored a goal, which was called off, and the team protested the game, which never finished. This dispute lasted for a full 24 hours, requiring mediation from local officials. The dispute was resolved the following day, with the goal being disallowed and the teams playing less than 5 minutes to resolve their match. The mini-game ended with no score, and the game ended the way the dispute began. The team that had been complaining refused to pay their entry fee as a result. They had lost to our team, and were not in the finals. Originally, the Vermont team was going to play SECMOL boys in the men's final, even though they hadn't played a single game in the tournament. After the disputed game was resolved, Vermont played the winner of this game after hours of delay.

"2013 Kargil Winter Games (Annual District Kargil Ice Hockey Championship) concluded at Ice Hockey Rink Kargil yesterday.

Sponsored by the J&K sports Council, the tournament was organized by KISS Clu. The tournament saw active participation of 5 teams from different Blocks of Kargil along with 105 players.

In the finale of the tournament, Adventure Sports Club Drass defeated Nindum Club Khangral by one goal."[14]

Indo Canadian Friendship Cup

The Indo Canadian Friendship Cup has been played since 2001. A February 2009 blog post noted the following: "For almost a decade now, members of the Canadian High Commission (Embassy) in Delhi have been coming up to Leh, Ladakh in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. They have been participating in a friendly tournament, the Indo-Canadian Friendship Cup, with local hockey teams, and have been bonding over the sport of ice hockey in the only region in India where ice forms naturally." The final match in the 2009 event between the Canadian team and a Jammu & Kashmir All-Star team was not completed due to poor weather conditions. The game was stopped in the second period with the score tied.

The 2012 Indo-Canadian Friendship Ice Hockey Tournament Cup was lifted by the Canadian team by defeating Indian Team at Karzoo Ice Hockey Rink Leh by 4 goals to 3 goals in a nail-biting final match.[15]

"In keeping with a tradition dating back to 2001, residents of Leh, Ladakh in northern India, welcomed Canadian expats for an ice hockey tournament at the highest skating rink in the world from January 18-20, 2013. Each year the Ladakh Winter Sports Club, the organizing body for ice hockey in the region, organizes a series of tournaments that take place during the cold winter months.

This year was particularly special in that it was the first international tournament, with attendees that included two teams from abroad in addition to the regular presence of the New Delhi Sacred Bulls (a team comprised of both current and former Canadian residents in Delhi).

The London Spitfire, a team made up largely of Canadian expats living in London, along with the Geronimos, a veteran team of international players made up of both German and Finnish players, both arrived eager to play and thrilled with the opportunity to promote ice hockey in India."[16]

In 2014 the "Indo-Canadian Friendship Ice Hockey Cup held on 19th Jan had total of four teams, two from Canada and two from India. Team World White defeated Delhi Bulls, both Canadian teams, by 3-2. In the tournament two of the oldest players Weip, 73 of Delhi Bull team and Saint, 69 of World White team were honoured with mementoes to play at the altitude of 12000 feet from the sea level."[17]

"Each year Ladakh Winter Sports Club, Leh organizes a series of Ice hockey tournaments in cold winter months.
