The Points Competition was played in Scotland on three occasions prior to World War II.

It was first held in 1929-30 and was utilized to divide the Scottish League into two "divisions" for the second half of the season. The top five teams qualified for the "First Division" while the bottom five finishers joined a "Second Division". It was won by Bearsden.

The Points Competition was next contested in the 1938-39 season. It's purpose was to give the teams time to get acclimated to the season, prior to the championship round for the Canada Cup. This was due to an array of roster changes that had occurred over the off-season. The competition was repeated in 1939-40, the last season of hockey in Scotland prior to World War II.

It was not resurrected after the war.
