The 1955–56 1re série season was the 35th season of the 1re série, the top level of ice hockey in France. Club des patineurs lyonnais won their first and only league title.

The decisive match of the season between Chamonix and Lyon was originally set to be played on February 4, but it was postponed to March 17. In the meantime, Lyon added an additional player, Harold Schooley, a Canadian imported who had finished his season with Torino in the Italian Serie A, and had only been loaned for friendlies.

This angered Chamonix, and led them to boycott the final game, feeling their superior record against the other three teams proved they deserved the league title (+38 as opposed to +32). However, Club des patineurs lyonnais was awarded the championship, the first and only title in their history.
