History
Hockey's development in Naberezhyne Chelny commenced during the early 1970s, with the construction of the Kamaz Automobile Plant within the city's boundaries.
Shortly thereafter, a small outdoor hockey rink was erected, where a team known as HC Kamaz played.
HC Kamaz played in the various lower-tier Soviet competitions, before disbanding around 1980. A new team was then formed, and played in the regional championships before dying out in the early 1990s.
HC Chelny was founded in 2004, sparking a rebirth of hockey in the city. The new club played in the third-level Pervaya Liga (later known as the Russian Hockey League) from 2004-2011, before joining the Minor Hockey League in 2012. They later returned to the third-level league.
