The Lausitzer Füchse (literally Lusatian Foxes) is a professional ice hockey team based in Weißwasser, Saxony. They currently play in DEL2,[1] the second level of ice hockey in Germany. Prior to the 2013–14 season they played in the 2nd Bundesliga. he Weißwasser U23 team, ES Weißwasser, currently plays in the Regionalliga East.
History
The team was founded in 1932 as TSV Weißwasser. TSV won its first official game against Spremberg, 5-0 on December 17, 1933. The club won the regional Silesian Championship in 1937 and 1938 and played in the 1937 German Championship. They are most significant for their remarkable domination as SG Dynamo Weißwasser in the DDR-Oberliga, winning 25 league championships.
After the German reunification the team could not hold its strength, financial problems and relegation from the top-tier followed.
