EC KAC, EC Kitzbühel, SG Cortina, and HC Bolzano participated in the inaugural tournament, with Cortina winning, ahead of KAC. KAC won the tournament five times (sharing first place with SG Cortina in 1968-69), SG Cortina captured the crown on three occasions, and HC Bolzano, Innsbrucker EV, the Yugoslav National Team, HC La Chaux-de-Fonds, HDD Olimpija Ljubljana, and HK Jesenice all won it once.

In 1962-63, a Swiss team competed for the first time, with HC Davos taking part, and the following year, Innsbrucker EV joined, immediately winning the tournament. In 1964-65, a German team made an appearance, with EC Bad Tölz participating, and the year after, the Yugoslav National Team debuted.
